Easter Recruitment Drive - Prize Draw

31st March 2016

In the run up to Easter we ran a recruitment drive to encourage continuation of the strong recruitment rate we've seen so far. Each randomisation in the two week period up to Easter Sunday was entered into a random draw and the lucky winners were The Jessop Wing!

They will be receiving a special thank you present in the post very soon. We were very pleased that The Jessop Wing were drawn from the hat as this week they also celebrated reaching their yearly recruitment target in just 6 months so it was great timing to say thank you and well done.

Recruitment Milestone Achieved

4th March 2016

We're thrilled to announce that the 300th PREVAIL baby was recruited by Dr Ajay Sinha and team at Royal London Hospital on the 4th March 2016. This is a phenomenal achievement and all sites should be proud of themselves for helping us reach this milestone early. We are currently recruiting around 6 weeks ahead of target so keep up the fantastic work!

This is also an opportunity to thank the parents of these 300 babies for making the decision to participate in research and allowing their babies to take part in PREVAIL. We hope that the results of this trial will inform hospitals about the best choice of PICC lines for premature babies and we could not do this without the support of parents and their babies- thank you.

Continuing Care Sites Update

6th January 2016

As most of you will know we are hoping to open multiple Continuing Care Sites (CCS) across England to support with collection of follow-up data when babies are transferred away from their recruiting centres. The UKCRN are supporting with this task and have kindly allowed us to submit a single, generic SSI form for all these potential sites.

The generic SSI form and information about the trial have been circulated in the last fortnight via the UKCRN local networks, and these local teams are approaching the relevant trusts. If you have been approached to participate in PREVAIL as a CCS we hope you will join us and help make PREVAIL a success. If you have any questions about the trial or the responsibilities of a CCS then please feel free to get in touch with the Trial Co-ordinator via .

Thank you to all our recruiting site teams who are working hard to collect follow-up data when babies are transferred, and thank you in advance to staff at potential CCS. We look forward to working with you!

World Prematurity Day

17th November 2015

The 17th November 2015 was World Prematurity Day and celebrations were held to mark the day across many of the PREVAIL recruiting centres. At Bradford Royal Infirmary babies on the neonatal unit were dressed in purple hats and blankets made by their volunteer knitting group. The Jessop Wing marked the day with a service in the Peace Gardens in Sheffield City Centre where the water fountains were lit purple, despite the terrible weather!

29 babies are born prematurely around the world every minute.
